Student Opportunities
The WAGS Lab offers a mix of paid and unpaid student opportunities that vary with funding availability.
Laboratory AssistantsUnder close direction and supervision, laboratory assistants will perform general laboratory cleaning, wash laboratory glassware and equipment, enter sample information into laboratory database, prepare samples for analysis, operate Liquid Water Isotope Analyzer (LWIA), attends and participates in laboratory meetings, and other duties as assigned. May require enrollment in 1 unit of Geology 199A: Beginning Special Problems which is graded on a Pass/No Pass basis. This is the entry-level class.

Research AssistantsStudents are eligible for promotion to this class after a minimum of 1 year of experience as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Laboratory Technician. Under minimal supervision, performs all duties of Laboratory Technician. In addition to Laboratory Technician duties, designs a research project and supervises Laboratory Assistants and Technicians in performance of duties pertaining to analysis required for research project. Presentation of research at campus or national conference may be required. May require enrollment in Geology 198A/B or 199C.
